ok... after you throw out the obivous junk (pyle, kenford,bs brand shit)

when a median price for a quality 12" sub starts between 85 and 125$ on ebayor direct.. (ie assassins12 , type r 12, idq12) and these subs are all excellents subs i think most would agree.. My question is what are you to gain spending $200+ or even considerqably more per sub.. is it just more volume, or do they go lower?? probably a dumb question.. these assassins are soo loud- wondering where the rabbit whole leads i guess..

Have you listened to a super sub (one with 25 or more Xmax one way , and really high BL) ? MOST will play lower and cleaner (less distortion) at high power levels , yes you can get the Type R , L7 ect to play 140+ on music , but how does it sound that high ?

Generally you get a less efficient sub that can get a LOT louder but takes a TON of power to do it. The can push the cone harder and give you more volume in a ported enclosure.

If you are happy with the Assassins, there is no reason to spend more. You would end up spending a lot more to get the same output that you already have because you would need a bigger more expensive amp to drive the more expensive sub to the same level and then you would need the electrical support for that more powerful amp. Whether that added cost for a couple dBs that you wouldn't honestly be able to appreciate if you value your hearing is worth it, is your call.

ok, well that answers that.. guess my next step will be a component set.. i currently have a pair of '96 Boston Acoustics 2 way 6.5s.. i am going to look at the type R comps.. any other suggestions for good comps?

SQ subwoofer = low to moderate price

SQL subwoofer = higher price.
That's the worst generalization I've ever seen.

I can name plenty of high priced "pure sound quality" subwoofers, which have limited excursion (and hence limited output potential). Likewise, there are plenty of low to moderate priced subwoofers which can get loud and sound good doing it.
