Subs don't have a tight "punch"

Trey, ur a ****ing riot dude... Get a life bro... Try and mess around with a noob that isn't as knowledgeable as you about "car audio". Get a job.
Dont get too upset, your question just happens to be an infamous one on these boards. The idea that cone diameter plays such a huge role in frequency response (10's are punchier) is a very common misconception, so much so that it has become a popular topic to make fun of. Dont take it personal.

most likely this is why......you have a big peak in the low frequencies 20-60hz. You are looking for higher bass and need to level out your response curve. This can be achieved by proper tunning of the amplifier and also an eq

lol being insulted by a 19 yr old tuff guy on a message board.

What ever happened to the days of message boards being a place for help, information, and discussion. It's incredible how immature some people can be because they feel they are better than someone else because they are more knowledgeable on the subject.

Hope your esteem is at an all time high right now.

I never said I was tough nor did I threaten you in any way. The fact that I was being sarcastic and you took offense to that tells me that you might be insecure about your lack of car audio education. Take it in stride bro, its just the internet.

Well, I just bought the subs and box off of a friend. Subs were already in the ported box.. The box is a kicker as well, so I'm guessing it was a sort of package deal from kicker. I'm sure its not a great setup, but for me it will get the job done. I cant really get any dimensions right now, because it is pouring outside.

I've read the kicker sx manual 5 times in and out. Problem is they are so broad on their descriptions of each feature, that it really tells you nothing about each one. Just how to change them.

set lp on 80hz

set hp on tunning freq. of box

set gain with dmm

set bass boost to zero

set all HU bass setting to a neutral or 0 position including the eq curve which should be flat and +0db @ 20-80hz for tunning

This is a starting point.....after this you can tweak the curve to your choice

Give us specific questions about specific features and Im sure someone will chime in with some answers. I gotta leave, but I'll check back here later in the day.

It's just frustrating when you're looking for a valid answer, and 7 guys have to be sarcastic untill the one responsible person comes along and answers your question honestly. Theres nothing wrong with being sarcastic, but being sarcastic and not even offering a sign of help isn't appreciated by anyone I'm sure.

Whatever, it is what it is. I'm just looking for some honest help. If you dont want to help me out thats fine, juts please dont flame my thread.

its forum dependant... go to SSA and you don't get all the BS

Trey, thanks dude.

Like i said, mess around with me all you want. I'll be the first to admit it that I know as much about car audio as I know about rocket science. That's the reason I'm here in the first place.

Right now I dont have a dmm, so whats a safe place to keep the gain at for now?

Also how do I check the tuning freq of the box, seeing as I have no manual or anything. Will it be printed somewhere on the box itself?

I'm going to compose a list of features that I'm having trouble with later today. Hopefully you guys can help me get my system bumping.

Thanks for all the help so far.
