I've had these subs installed for about a year and a half and only this week they've cut out at higher volume. The amp doesn't go into protection mode it cuts on and off. My lights dim when louder notes hit and I'm not sure what's causing this. I've read other forums saying it could be the alt or battery and if it is would using a capacitor help or should i get a better alt/battery?

Start with the grounds. Check the battery ground and clean and re-tighten it. Check the ground from the amp to the cars body and clean and re-tighten it. Check and re-tighten the connections on the amp. Check and re-install the connections to the sub(s). Wires corrode, cables come loose over time. High volumes yield more vibrations and if this is when it is cutting off, more than likely you may just have a weak or loose connection. I am betting they were pretty good and tight if they lasted over a year before needing attention. Good Luck.

Ok thanks ill try. I've never re done the grounds on the battery or in the trunk but i often clean off the wires going into the amp.

You may need to check your supply fuse as well, and may need to refresh the wiring there also. You can go to Orileys or Autozone, or an auto parts store and they can check your voltage at the battery. You can pull your alternator and take it in and have them bench test it as well as the battery. Its generally FREE.If they know what they are doing, you dont have to pull either.Test individually. How old is your battery? What is your electrical like?Supply wire size, and fuse,?What amp or amps are you running, and what vehicle? You have an existing alternator/or newer or an HO alternator?Have you done the Big 3yet?What battery do you have?Size, group, and type?

What subs do you have? Make and model and Ohm load? There are several things to be considered.Start with ground wiring and supply wiring and freshen those up as stated and move towards the next culprit.

Additinally, no need to reference "max" anything as those specs are useless. Most of know how to look at specs for a given speaker, amp, HU, etc...

If they had an orange basket I would have to buy them.... Hmmmm Sell my 4 Xs and get 6 of those and do no-wall again with one more 4500.....

That’s the little single 6.5 inch enclosure. The Savard did just as well as the RDS. These subs do well in ported or 6th orders but not as well...

Look at the Alpine Type S subs.
