Subs connect to Computer power supply

Hey everyone,

You guys know a lot more than me when it comes to this. I have 2 8" subs and I want to run them inside my room. I want to use the computer supply way to power the amp. I'm looking to run it on this amp.Boss Audio RIOT R1002 2-Channel Power Amplifier... Would I be able to run speakers on it too? Like run the subs to the amp and speakers. So it's not just powering the sub... Also how would I connect my iPod to it to play music?

Man i kinda don't understand why you have to run a car amp to a home stereo system? Why not just get a home receiver with an aux input? You could use it to power your subs, your speakers. And plug your ipod or computer through the aux input. No power supplies to worry with

I would think u could use rca (into the amp) aux. Into ur ipod. I might be wrong. Because the radio gives volts into the amp and im not sure if that setup will.

I've done this for years. @globalminds_ent; using a HT receiver is a better option for efficiency and sound but he would also need a designated plate amplifier to power the subs and I feel that the real reason behind this idea is price. He is obviously on a tight budget if he is considering a boss amp. lolz Real receivers will cost 100 bucks at the very least and that leaves him with low options and poor specs in the HT world.

@rauber15; you can wire a computer PSU (Power Supply Unit) to generate a constant 12v and you can run most car audio amplifiers off of it. You should not plug the speakers and subwoofers into that amp together because they are not meant to play full range. The subs need an amp to push a low frequency signal and the speakers need a separate amp. This is unless you find a 3ch or 5ch amp with a designated subwoofer output.

As for the ipod connection, you will get a simple 3.5mm plug to RCA plug adapter cable. They're about 3 bucks at walmart and you plug the RCA's into the RCA input of the amp.

the boom box i built on the bottom was run by a kenetik 600 car audio battery and a small 2 channel 250 ish watt amp. it had a on off switch up top as well as positive and negative charging posts to connect my smart car battery charger to. it had a rca left and right pluged in to the amp that connected to mp3 player from headphone jack. so mp3 player was entirely control of volume.

the speakers in it were from a pair of home stereo cabnet speakers 12's with the crossovers so it all played as it should. - it was heavy but portable / big / loud as heck - and instant life of the party where ever it went ( to the woods / beach / anywhere without an ac power plug.

sadly the battery ended up eating crap when i lent it to a frend and he diddnt charge it for 3 months and it got destroyed when i tried to change it out.
