Sub Swap - Soundsplinter for Soundsplinter

Okay, so I've decided I want to tone down my bass level and smooth out the sound of my system.

I've currently got an RL-p 15" running on 800w from a Viper d1200.1

I plan on selling these two and buying some new speakers.

My thoughts are to go with two RL-i 8" woofers, and power them with an eD nine.2x for 300w each @ 2 ohms.

I'm basically looking for some real nice SQ speakers to go with some front comps in kickpanels, good imagery and clean sound.

Comments? Reccomendations? I'm hoping to get $400 out of my current setup, but it won't take me long to scrounge up more money.

You're half right. They are there to match the signal from the headunit...but if you keep the gains low you can give the drivers less power, and we all know less power never hurt anything.

So if your amp puts out 100@4ohm so get the voltage you set it....

(100*4)sqrt=20v

if you only want 50watts...

(50*4)sqrt=14.14v

So... You can still turn it down...

If you want more space I would switch them out. But the 15 is going to have so much more low end extension than the 8's. I would seal it up if you have it ported and attenuate it to your system.

i got an rl-p right now and im trying to get a xxx to go with my new amp or i might get an AA ava, i never understood why someone would want to spend money on a downgrade instead of just turning the volume down

I don't know anybody who'd use a 15" Rl-p in a 1cuft box. Closer to 2cuft, maybe.

Whereas a pair of 8" Rl-i's would work quite well in a .34cuft enclosure for the pair, which is about 1/5th the size.

Any other good SQ 8's around?

I still need to buy my kicks and comps :-/ so I might just sell my setup, buy the comps, and save up for bass later.

I love bass, just only at certain times.

And yes, my current box takes up about 4/5ths of my trunk. I'm very much interested in something like squeak mentioned above. I don't just want to turn the volume down.

oh oops i was thinkin about the 12..yeh ye hthe rl-i does use alot less space id love to have like 3 8s in my truck that would look awesome, but its always been cheaper and easier to me to use 1 12
