my friend has a BTl 18 in a ported box to spec an amp is spec also. an he think he want to trade it for some orion hcca 12.2 or something like that. 2 12s to 1 18?? what one is best....space is not an issue, what one will be louder?

"amp is spec" what does that mean? make/model? impedance load? what will the impedance load be with the Orion combo? Will the amp be the same?

no one can tell you which is "louder", or if they claim to they are blowing smoke. it's relative. both may have different burp frequencies if you are interested in SPL competition. both have different enclosure requirements. two subs can suffer from phase interference (both constructive and destructive) based on separation distances and the vehicle. performance is mostly determined by installation.

if you are looking for SPL competition, then share build log photos, competition scores, etc. if you just want to be louder with music, it's a mute point. either setup could be louder at different frequencies. what kind of vehicle?

ok the car is a 2001 crown vic, rear deck not ported, amp is hifonics 2006d, extra batt in trunk sub is fi btl 18 dual 2 at 1 ohm, box is 6cuft port 33hz L port.

orions are dual 2 will go in same car pretty sure he cant use the same amp space is not an issue

Stick with the 18 and build a better enclosure. Start looking for SPL tips.

If you're asking for which has more cone area to solicit lulz like SMD had yesterday:

(1) 12" has 113.1 sq inches of cone.

(1) 18" has 254.47 sq inches of cone.

This is assuming that the diameter of the cone is true to size which it almost never is.

it wasnt me asking it was my friend i told him the 18 was beast but whoever put his crossover in had bass boost all the way up, so he thinkks the crossover made it louder, i was telling him that it was dirty power an he said HEY! it sounded good!
