sub problems

currently i have one 600w 4 channel amp driving one sub and two six by nines. earlier on today i added in another 500w amp to drive the sub while the sony amp drives the six by nines, how ever their is a small problem both amps turn on fine and the amp running the six by nines workes perfectly but the sub cuts out after about 10 seconds... i checked the amp and it is still on their is just no sound from the sub...im guessing it may be a power issue because im running everything off the standard battery and alternator which came on the car (peugeot 106) but if there is anything else that might be stopping it working id be greatful for the help

Could be insufficient power caused by either trying to pull too much current through too small a power wire or a bad ground. Sub amp gain could be set too high. Wires could be shorted on the output. Without any more information we'd be hard pressed to really pinpoint the problem.

uhh more information....both power wires for the amp are connected to the battery...one wire on top of the other, amps are both grounded at the same point aswell (metal point on the metal backing of the boot) i dont really know what else i can tell you!

Okay - 1st question....what size power cable are you using to supply these amplifiers?

2nd ?: What size cable supplies ground for these amps?

3rd ?: Where exactly in the trunk (boot) do you have the amps grounded to? From the sounds of it I think the grounding point may be a good place to look at first....my assumption is that it isn't a suitable chassis ground especially for two amps as opposed to a single one.

Grounding multiple devices to a common grounding point shouldn't cause issues assuming that the grounding point in question is good. I have my main ground cable spot-welded to the spare tire mount underneath the floor in the boot of my car and that cable feeds a distribution block which in turn feeds all of my added-on electrical gear (amps, neons, etc) without any problems.

i have no idea what size the cables are...im new to this whole malarky...they are just the basic cables i got in an amp wiring kit! il take some pictures of the cables/ground point tomorrow and post them that will probly explain things alot better than i can! the amps work fine indevidually its just when they are both running at the same time! and even though the sub cuts out the speakers still work and the amps are still turned on, one thing is though i have noticed the light lighting the speedo on the dashboard has become very dim since installing just one amp, which makes me think it could be a power issue! but what do i know!
