sub hook up problems

I recently installed an alpine 9856 head unit in a 2001 prelude. i hooked up a 600rms alpine amp and one kicker comp cvx12. when you have the radio on, the amp light is on and the sub hits. when you try to change to the cd player or ipod hook up, the amp power light shuts off. I don't know if something is wired wrong or there is something wrong with the head unit. Please shoot me your info.
