check coils with dmm(and look to see if tinsel lead is disconnected(dmm will tell))

how do i do this and if this is the problem how do i fix it

Depends on how bad it is. If its something visible, you can solder a jumper accross the broken leads. If it's not visible, you'll need a recone.
