sub gets hot to fast?

Another question my amp was getting very hot too and it normally doesn't what does this mean?

This could mean alot of different things.

First two things that come to mind

1. Bad ventilation - Where is the amp mounted?

2. Amps Clipping - Needs the gains adjusted correctly

Its mounted on the back of my rear seat in my car

Let me guess though. The box is right next to it, covering it? Very little ventilation? Or does it get hot with the seat folded down? If so, the amp is clipping. Get everything adjusted correctly.

No the seat is usually folded down and the sub is on the other side of the trunk. But i just noticed it get very hot today could the amp be going bad or something? But today was one of the first days of warm weather if that matters

Okay, sub gets hot and amp gets hot. CLIPPING. Adjust your gains properly

i thought they were adjusted right i used i mutimeter and did the volt to watt conversion. Should i look at that again and change it up?

What ohm are the voice coils on the sub? Measure those and let me know

they are dual 4 ohm

I understand that, but remeasure them with a DMM. Measure each coil separately. I have a dual 2, but my coils read 2.4 and 2.5.

oh sorry they are 1.8 combined if that is what your asking

You dont have enough electrical to support it. That Fosgate is VERY power hungry. You might of killed the battery.

Apparently you have some serious voltage problems. Things to look at:

1. Has the Big 3 been done? If not, do it.

2. How big is your factory alternator? Less than 130 amps, need to look at adding a secondary battery or buying a higher output alternator.

3. What is voltage at the battery?

4. What is voltage at the amplifiers?

5. How are your grounds on both amps? Ground down to BARE metal?

6. What size power wire are you using? Also, what size ground wire are you using?

But seems to me that you are getting some serious voltage drop. Causing the t1000 to send a clipped signal to the sub and now causing the 4 channel to go into protect mode due to low voltage. RF t1000 is a current hungry lil fucker. I had the t1500.1bd and had to run two extra batteries due to the current it pulled. At the time I only had a 140amp alternator.
