Hi i got a rockford t1 12" and a rockford t1000bd the gain is set about half way so i dont think the sub is getting to much power. But the sub is getting very hot with only about 15 min of play time why is it getting so hot so quick?
turn off all forms of bass boost, it does nothing but **** the signal upHow do i make it so it doesnt clip?
Get a DMM and set your gain to 800-1000 watts. Just setting the gain to half, does not mean that the gain is matched to the input level. Best way to set the gain would be to use an Oscilloscope. But if one of those are not available, a DMM should suffice. Also, make sure you are not clipping the signal from the headunit. Example: My headunit Pioneer DEH-80PRS has a max volume of 50 and starts clipping at 47. So I never turn my volume above 46, unless I am at a competition. If you are unsure on how to adjust using a DMM, search it on youtube. Quite a few how to's on youtube.
How do you check if your headunit is clipping the signal?
I used an SMD DD-1 to find my clipping. You can also do it by ear. Is your mids and highs amped or are they running off the headunit?
Yep. Once they start distorting, by ear, back down two. So my max volume would be 54 in your scenario.Yeah my mids and highs are amped and they start distorting at about 56/62 so is that about where the headunit clips?
