sub distortion?

Hey guys, for some reason when I open the doors or window on my truck (it is a regular cab) my sub starts to get distorted quite bad? Why would it do this and what can I do to kinda stop it other than not open my windows haha. Cause with doors shut its clean crisp bass with a window open its a lot louder and distorted. Could it be the fact of how small a regular cab is and its acting like a box for the sub and keep a it pressurized?it's not a ported box either.

Low bass should sound better with the windows down.

I think you probably have the gain set too high on your amp. Also, are you using loudness on the head unit or bass boost on the amp?

How did you go about setting this amplifier?

No I don't use any equalizer except on my mids amp and even that's slight on my sub I havey amp putting out correct voltage at a 0db 45hz sine wave and no loudness is used either all that's turned off I also have a subsonic filter at 20 hz and low pass at 90hz on a 24 db slope.

Sure it's actually distorting and your not just getting more low end? That's usually what happens when the windows go down.. Only other thing I can imagine is that the loss in cabin pressure is causing your sub to unload, but that's REALLY unlikely given the SPL levels we are talking about. Look at the cone and see if it's actaully moving any further when the window goes down.

That would be a function of the harness, not the HU, I think. Have you looked into a Maestro or iData interface? i would check with crutchfield...

thanks DB, that definitely helps swallowing a $300 price tag 😂 these would essentially be running midbass for me too
