sub crackling

I have a 350wrms/800wmax sub in my car, my new amp isnt in yet but why with the old 150wrms amp my sub crackles asthough it cant handle it, is it because it realy cant or because the amps not powerfull enough, if its the sub then i will send it back, if not ill put my new amp in

Pushing the amp beyond it's amplifying capabilities. It cuts the top of the signal. Instead of a nice sound wave its chopped off.

try turning the gain down and see if it sounds better.
