im still a noob and was curious... what is the difference in htz for sub ports?

ind if i have a box tuned to 40 htz how do i change that, or can I?

Eh, you can change it, but it will involve changing port area to do so since you can't get up in the box and add/subtract from the current port length.

Your best bet would be to build a different box. Tuning determines how the woofers will reproduce frequencies, where it will peak, etc. Tuning to 40 hz will be peaky and probably have poor response in the 30 - 40 hz region. Tuning to between 32 - 36 hz is usually recommended to make sure the lows sound good and general SQ and flat response is retained.

the box only hits hard at certain frequencies so that makes sense, its a dual 4 ohm kicker cvx 12... i want a wider range. where should i get a pre built, or should i build my own, and also where could i get blueprints if i do?

just try longening the port, or making it a bit shorter if u can...and see where it fits u best....theory and pratice tend to disagrree a lot...and sound is an extremly subjective category...

He's not going to be able to "longen" or shorten the port he has now because the box is already built.

But yeah, don't go the prefabbed route. Also, if that's an enclosure that the cvx came with, of course it's tuned high, doesn't have enough port area/port width, and probably doesn't have enough internal airspace for the sub! I've dealt with/seen VERY FEW prefabbed enclosures that are any good. Lots are built with deep staples, nailguns (only nails, no screws), and are designed and constructed poorly. Most are made to "look good" and to catch the eye and to house a sub, nothing more! Anyhow, you'll get it all worked out very soon....! LMK if you have any other questions!
