Sub and Amp Decisions

Hi,

As you can tell this is my first post. I'm brand new into car audio, and this is going to be my first install.

When I say new, I mean it. I can tell the difference between subs and tweeters, etc. and I know what an amp does. Thats about it.

Anyways, I drive a 1991 Miata, and I'm planning on installing two 6.5" subs into a custom box.

Two of these:

I contacted the company and they said I need an amp that puts out 150 watts per sub, and 300 watts when bridged.

Can you reccomend one to me? Budget is $250, max.

I'm running a Dual XDMR7700 head unit, if that makes a difference.

I'm going to have a couple questions about wiring and stuff, but that comes later.

Thanks.

Haha, I saw that website already. Thanks.

How would you say they are compared to a decent 10" sub?

Keep in mind, when they're in my car, they're going to be in a custom box in the passenger footwell. Which is about 3 feet away from my right ear.

I kind of have my heart set on those Mpyres, but I will look into these. Thanks again.

Custom Box:

Cut List:

14 3/4" x 9" (top)

12 7/8" x 14 3/4" (back | 45 degree cut along LONG side)

(2) 8" x 8" Right Triangle (side)

Please see picture for FRONT piece.

It's ~ .27-.28 cu ft.

How about this one?

How much are you looking to spend? There are many amps that will deliver the power you're after but they vary quite a bit in price.

On their forum, Mpyre recommended .25 cf per sub. Here's a link to their forum if you haven't been there.

I run my sub up front in the middle floorboard. I like it but it may not be to everyone's tastes. The Mpyre is an interesting little driver. I wouldn't expect it to be an SPL machine but it does seem to give some options for space limited installs that don't need huge output.

Yea, the guy who designed the box said it was ok.

Uhh, I forget his name... Nathan. He designed the subs and the box, so I think I'll trust him.

Plus, it fits into my car exactly.

But, if it doesn't fit, what happens? Like, does it explode?

Um... what?

Sorry, I'm new and don't know about the audio lingo at all.

But no, I'm just planning on the two subs for right now, and putting them in the passenger footwell, b/c the Miata is a convertible and sounds terrible with a trunk sub. And there isn't room anyways.

Imaging?

Haha, no it's off of what I've heard. Many Miata drivers have tried to put subs in the trunk, but since it's a convertible, it shakes the top, and there is a hollow space between the trunk and cabin that deadens the sound apparently.

imageing is pointing the speakers at you so it sounds better. if you want to go with a much much much cheaper alternative to those that still sounds great go with the dayton ts 8" woofers from parts express. they are like 30 bucks each and very popular.
