sub/amp compatibility?

Hello, new here. Just stopping in with a quick question. I have a 2002 F-150 that I would like to add a little more to it. I have stock speakers and a Alpine head unit. I plan on building a sub box that will fit underneath the back seat. It will hold a single 10" sub.

What I am looking at getting is a single Polk 10" sub

MM1040 Car Subwoofer from Polk Audio

with a Crunch P1-1000.2

CRUNCH Car Audio - Powerone Amplifiers

I am not looking for anything that will rattle windows 2 blocks away, just something that will give me a little bit fuller sound than what I have now. I just don't know much about car audio stuff.

Looking at the specs, I may have to dial back the amp a little since it is 500w rms and the sub can only handle 350w.

Will these 2 work well together, or do I need to change anything. The wiring and the carpentry will not be a problem for me.

Thanks.

That looks like it may be a better option since it only has a 3" mounting depth vs the 4 1/2" on the Polk. I only have 7" of clearance between the floor and the bottom of the seat. I am using 3/4" MDF, so space will be very tight. Will I loose any quality by going to a shallower sub?

Thank you for the response.

Oh. I do not believe I can fit anything larger that 4.75" mounting depth. I am figuring 1.5" for the MDF, 1/4" for venting and 1/2" for movement. Again, I really don't know much about this stuff, but this is what I have found by reading.

Thank you for the input about the Memphis and the sub. I will check it out.

The Alpines are getting a little out of my price range. I would like to keep the entire project under $300 if possible. For the Memphis, would it be the 15-SC10D4 that you are referring to? The Memphis subs are about twice the price of the Polk I am looking at. Is it really worth the extra cost?

Thank you,

I can buy the Polk at a local store for $89, brand new in the box. Thank you for that link. The best I had found on them was $169. It seems that y'all both prefer the Memphis, so I will go with that one and the Crunch 1000w amp.

Thank you.

Honestly, i think that the Polk is probley comparable to the memphis, at the very least in terms of SQ. I think the memphis will have a little more output, but if you are more concerned with sq then output, get the polk and pocket the difference. I think they are pretty close anyway, and one is half the price

Buy my Cerwin Vega Stroker 12 (original, not new one)...It has a very short mounting depth and has ridiculous output and very good sound quality to top it off...

Sorry, but a 12 just will not fit. A 10 is really pushing the limit and will stick out some into the foot area. A 12" would mean I have to take it out every time someone rides in the back seat, which is often enough for me to not want to do it.
