I'm really sorry to bother you all with such a wimpy question but I was riding down the highway listening to my cd player and then I heard a loud pop and then there was a burning smell in my car.As this was going on my receiver shut off and turned back on again and since then Everything on the receiver appears to work fine but no sound is coming out of any speakers.I have a 91 cavalier with a sony xplode cd player, xplode 6x9s in the back, and factory 3" fronts.Any advice at this point would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Sounds like you blew a fuse bro!! Check fuses at your distribution block, under the dash, and I know I've got a couple fuses on the back of my h/u!

If this isn't it be sure to let us know!!

Yep... def check for that.. Also, pull the Head out of the dash.. you may have burnt up the internal amplifier in it... Happens a good bit more than you'd think... They keep putting bigger chips into them, and they don't allow for more heat dissapation..

I can't imagine the hu burning up in a factory designed hu enclosure. I would think that the space that is alotted for the hu would have ample enough air circulating through it. I don't think hu's put out that much current that it would get hot enough to burn up without blowing a fuse first.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

You'd be suprised. I've seen a few xplod's burn up because they got to hot. I was told by a local dealer that sony was suppose to be looking into the situation and maybe have a recall, but that was a while back, and I guess it wasn't quite bad enough.

I'll stay away from Sony hu's then! You learn something new everyday!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I doubt it was a fuse with the noise that was made. Fuse's rarely produce a smell that can be detected easily, unless it's a very large fuse. I think a speaker was somehow blown. And that would cause the decks auto-protect circuit to kick in, thus not killing the deck, but stopping sound.

Yeah... check this link out. It shows the power handling of that tweeter. I'd just match the power no matter if you use the crossovers or not...

I would probably like to seal from the trunk but how that would effect cancellation is beyond my understanding. Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself...

Maybe because they enjoy helping others and discuss car audio? I don’t expect members to be here all day long and answer every question presented...
