I'm in Ur F0rumZ
I'm thinking of possibly selling the rear fills in my car and getting just flat midbass speakers. The reason why is 2 fold: The tweeters on my Polk easily overpower the Type-R's, even with +3 db on the R's. The R's are also aimed at each other, by the door handle, roughly at the bicep level sitting in the seats. Also, the Polks are more limited at 5.25" with midbass hit then the 6.5" R's. It just doesn't perform well below the 80-100 Hz range. They are really clear and crisp though, just bad location.
So, I'm looking into dremmel and modding in a Midbass driver to the rear. I will have 200 watts of clean RMS to throw into all 4 doors eventually, so I am shopping now. I'm looking into decent throw which can hang with the music even during complex instument sessions, not missing a beat.
I have been warned that strong midbass in the rear might take away from the fronstage, is this true by experience? I understand that many skip rear fill due to this reason, but I'm running 60 RMS rear and 70 RMS front, and I don't mind the rearfull even with a fullrange, I could imagine the stronger hit minus loud tweeters would be better in the rear for soundstage as opposed to what i am running now.
Got any decently priced ideas? I'm looking into less that 250$ for midbasses to fit the bill. I buy online/E-bay, and I listen to fast pace techno, (some happy hardcore) Urban techno-ish (club mixes of Lil John, Bhusta Rhymes, etc..), and Metal (In Flames, Disturbed, Killswitch Engage, etc...). I'm getting the Polks for the front stage as I have heard them play this music and fell in love.
Thanks for any help!
