strap my amps or not?

Hey guys,

Hope someone can help me out on something i have been thinking about.

Im buying 2 esx signum 7000d amplifiers, each 3500rms at 1 ohm.

Im buying 2x AA Mayhem 18s not sure what impedance yet.

Reason i say that is;

Is it better i strap the amps to make 7000rms at 2ohm

Or do i just wire the 1 amp per sub at 1 ohm?

I ask as im not sure i can match gain the amps as the subs will be in the same emclosure.

Anyway if someone can clarify this issue for me.

The shop im buying the equipment from says i shouldnt strap the amps. He says having to loose amps is better but i will need match gain the amps. And im scared to mess up my brand new system.

I have watched alot of videos on how to gain match. But none of the videos show how to gain match for a sub at 2500rms being given 3500rms. This because the mayhem can aparently handel 5k easily.

Thats fone but strappin is easier. Less room for error. I did tge same scores strapped

I meant what's the easier way to setting the gains for gain matching instead of strapping. I heard when you strap if one blow than the other blows as well, so I'm fully set on gain matching and not strapping

I hook up one amp and play around with it for a little bit to find where the maximum clean power is for my subs. Then, I hook the other amp up and set the gain the same as the first one to gain match.

Without a dmm or anything? If so that's not very accurate. Amps can be away off by eye balling the gain.

Setting gain for the first one, I don't use test equipment. I just adjust the gain to where it doesn't stress the subs, the amp doesn't get warm, and voltage doesn't tank.

Then disconnect the subs, play a tone on repeat, measure unloaded voltage, and set the other amp for that unloaded voltage.

I use my headunit for subsonic and low pass filters, so I just leave those wide open on the amps to make things easier.

Should've been more specific, but I thought it was understood how I set other amps the same as the first one
