worry more about building it then covering it right now. if you have access to a brad nailer that would make it a lot easier

But a brad nailer won't help pull the wood together if his cuts are a little off.

For a first box, I would suggest sticking with screws.

 
My pops will be helping, he is a handy man..Brad nailer?

it's basically a nail gun you hook to an air compressor and it shoots tiny nails. when building a box, the wood glue is strong enough to hold the enclosure together. the screws just hold the wood in place until the glue dries

 
Screws it its! Do the plans look ok? I did some search and that came up for 1 Type R 12" I think!

make sure you pre-drill. do you have clamps or is someone gonna hold the pieces together for you? what i used to do when i used screws was get 2 drills, and then my cordless which doesn't have a lot of balls would be used for the pilot hole, then i get the electric one to drive the screws in. also you could use gorrilla glue if your cuts aren't totally accurate.
