Stinger Crossflow fans????

Anyone have any experience w/ the Stinger crossflow fans? I need something to help cool my amp and this looks like it can really push some air. Any opinions welcome. TIA.

you'd have to forgive me, i've never heard of those before...but wouldn't surplus computer fans be a whole lot cheaper, and get the same job accomplished?

are those the ones that are long and clyndrical? i was looking at those for my cooling, but i decided to get comp. fans instead. much cheaper. and should work just as well. i got 2 comp fans for the price of one of those stinger fans.

The PC fans would probably do the job about the same but I seen these and liked the design. At work I have used fans that operate on the same principal and they move alot more air in a focused direction. I will most liekly use the PC fans because I can get them local and for cheap, just wanted to check to see if these considerably better. Thanks for the response.

Holy shit that is expensive. Though the decibel rating is not published, I assume that it will be rather loud, also, given the amount of airflow it tries to push (54 CFM) and the fan’s overall design. Even looking at the “expensive” computer fans, four could be easily gotten for the price of that one Stinger, and would seriously outperform it, certainly in terms of cooling capability and likely in noise output as well.

Compare:

Stinger SF3N -- $32

Dimensions: 8.125" x 1.75" x 1.75"

Max Air Flow: 54 CFM

Noise: Unlisted

Thermaltake A1280 -- $7

Dimensions: 120 x 120 x 25 mm (4.7” x 4.7” x 1”)

Max Air Flow: 78 CFM

Noise: 34 dB

Thermaltake Thunderblade -- $7 (if you wanted to spice up the rack by adding blue LEDs)

Dimensions: 120 x 120 x 25 mm (4.7” x 4.7” x 1”)

Max Air Flow: 78 CFM

Noise: 21 dB (granted, the fan is sleeve bearing, but I doubt it is quite that quiet, personally)

If you wanted a temperature sensing fan, those will likely be in the $10-15 range (I think I read that the Stinger had that feature? I do not remember, however…) So if you’re not absolutely set on the design/appearance of the Stinger fan, there are much smaller, better, and (I would wager) quieter performers for considerably less money.
