Still nothing competes with 880prs?

I really doubt the sony HU is the cause of your alt whine.. most likely install error.
LOL ok buddy. I have even ran dedicated power, ground, and rca's outside of the vehicle and still get alt whine from the deck. And if i use my mp3 player as my source without running though my deck, directly to my amps i get no whine. There is no other option than the deck...

Don't post in my threads and make me out to be a newb, it's just rude. It's not like a created a thread asking you to help me with my alt whine. I know what is the cause of it, i don't need your help.

I swapped out my 880 for the Alpine 9887 because I wanted something new. That was about a year and 1/2 ago. I still can't get the Alpine to sound as good as the 880. I am seriously thinking about putting it back in. I am torn though, the Alpine looks great and the Ipod and Sub level are better than the Pioneer. I guess I need to decide if I want better sound or more convience!

Has more features but nothing like the 880/800 dissimilar in eq/crossover so it is NOT a contender.

theres a clarion unit, i think its dxz775 or something... is capable of FOUR way active for well under 200 new. theres also the dxz955, which is 3 way capable, the alpine 9887, the eclipse 7000 series... more than a couple.
No, the 775/785 can only do 3-way HOWEVER it does have a bandpass for the low end driver so one could do a 3-way active front stage WITHOUT sub. The DRZ9255 does 4-way active, NOT the DXZ, two totally different units.

the panasonic cq-c9901u is a pretty good headunit
Not even in the same league.

i think you have things a little scred up here. the clarion drz 9255 is 4 way capable and is discontinued. if there was a 4 way actice unit for under $200 new my problems would be over
BINGO

The ipod issue is not a factor the eq and crossover on the 880 is leaps and bounds over the 117. Of course it will sound the same, the ipod dacs are being used.

The IPOD DAC is not being used on the CDA 117. It has been upgraded on the 117. The Burr Brown 24 DAC also applies to the IPOD sound. That is the major difference between the 9886, 9887 with this year's CDA 117. Yes you are right the EQ and crossover setting on the 880 PRS are better and you do not need to use imprint to access those options. However, having used both the 880 PRS is not leaps and bounds over the CDA 117. To me to access the IPOD and scroll through the songs on the 880 was a pain in the *** and not worth it in the end. The differences between the 880 and 117 balance out nicely, in the end the sound is all that matters.

those RCA grounds aren't to be grounded om both ends, you ground one side to the unit and leave the other end open, if you still have noise try using a isolated ground on the other end..

its most likely a ground loop between the amp and the cd player try using the same ground for both devices and see if that helps..

if that doesn't work try regrounding your alt and or your battery..
