91-94 Nissan Sentra SE-R. Pretty much the only good Sentra Nissan ever made. Audtocross-minded suspension from the factory. Plenty of nice mods out there for them (seeing as they run the wonderful SR-20 engine). Not easy to find, but fun little cars. I saw one on ebay a while back for $4500 that was turboed, aftermarket suspension, new paint, all decked out with about 400whp. Definitely an affordable option if you can find one.

It's a ways away, but with the amount you would be under budget, you could drive down, spend the night, and drive back.
