Thread Jack!!!
Here is my review. I figured Id post it somewhere other then the review section so that others can comment...
So Ryan (tirefryr) got me an amp...here is my review on 500rms.
Oh my...I thought that 300rms sounded good. 500 is defiantly a large step up on the Mag. You just cant comprehend the detail that this sub offers. It commands and excels in every single situation and song I have thrown at it. I couldn’t have asked for a better speaker. The money couldn’t have been better spent.
First CD I listened to on my way home after the install was Best of Bass 305. The first song on the CD gets your speakers going with a lower end track Id guess around 25-30hz. The mag shook my truck to the point that I had to turn it down. After running through that CD I realized that I needed some Mid-bass EQ work. EQ'd the mids and reset all the gains in the truck using the 3 to 1 rule (wanted to test it out) I must say that overall you can tell that at a constant, the system is getting more power....back to the mag //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
Next CD is probly my all time favorite, test CD...The Eagles-Hell Freezes over (this is the live album best of, you REALLY should pick it up if you don’t have it)
Let me tell you, I have never, ever heard New York Minute, Hotel California, or Life in the Fast Lane as accurate as I hear with the mag. The Kick drum blended perfectly with the mid-bass making a perfect blend of beat and tap(if you record you kind of understand what I mean)(you can actually hear not only the Deep bass from the kick, but the tap from the kick pedal hitting and ringing on the head of the drum) IMO this make the perfect blend from Mid-bass to sub-bass.
Next music was APC-Thirteen step...Nick recommended it so I tried it. Now, ouch is all I can say. Actually too much for my ears. I am not saying that it is so loud, but it is DEFINATLY louder on music then my 2 12" CVs. Followed up that song with a little 311. Man I love the bass lines and kick drum in those songs, mixed with the piccalo snare drum my ears were ringing. The mag snapped at each drum beat and had the output and sustain that the Bass commanded.
Next, I decided to pull out the old school...Warren G-Regulators and Dr. Dre-Kronik 2001 and the original Kronik. Most of the older rap songs didn’t use deep, low sub-bass that today’s rappers use. I decided to raise the crossover points on my active setup, instead of the 63hz @24db slope that I had I opted for 80hz @24. I actually enjoyed the music this way just as much. The Mag makes and excellent sealed woofer, It had absolutly no problems playing the upper sub-bass range that I thought it might have trouble with.
In all, I enjoy the extreme low end from this sub, it is more then able to shake my truck apart. It can make my back wall and window flex with only 500rms. It is also just as potent in the mid to upper sub-bass region. Again, I am defiantly more then happy with the results from this sub.
Well, that is it for now. I just got the call that my Memphis was fixed. Guess I will further review it with 1200rms and get back to everyone. If anyone has any requests let me know (music, metering, doesnt matter. I am up for anything with this sub. I now know that it will excell in anything you throw at it!!)
