Starting from scratch...opinions needed

Picked up a new 2018 F150 last month. My last truck had a complete aftermarket system that I pieced together on a budget. This time around I am not going to limit myself by budget.

Here is my list so far:

JL Audio 10tw3

JL Audio JX500/1D

Audison 8.9 amp/dsp

Focal Access 6.5" comps up front

Focal Access 6.5" coaxs in the back

The sub and amp I have already, and I have my mind made up the Audison 8.9 is the way to go for me.

I have limited access to other 6.5" comps to compare to so please chime in with opinions. I don't want to cheap out, but at the same time, don't want to overspend either.

Stopped by the audio shop after work. Slight change of plans.

Going with the Focal K2s up front and am going active as well.

I may look at speakers in the rear doors but for now will leave them as is.

After a ton of research and listening to sound boards, and bugging the hell out of the local stereo shops, I ended up installing Helix E series 6.5" comps up front and then the matching 6.5" coaxials in the rear doors. I also installed hushmat on and in each door...and am looking at finding some 1/4" abs plastic to block off the large access holes in each door. Running off just stock deck power these speakers sound amazing compared to the stock speakers...almost good enough that I am considering not amplifying them (but seriously when my tax return comes in, I will be grabbing an Audison AP8.9 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif ).

Purchased a Knukoncepts 4amp Kolosus amp kit to run the JL JX500/1D and the 10" JL 10tw3.

It sounds good...really good...but my inside voice keeps telling me it could be better.

Next step is to purchase a bit more hushmat for the rear wall of the truck, plastic sheet to cover the large door openings, 3 runs of speedwire (8 inputs, 12 outputs as I will be running the fronts full active), and, of course, the Audison 8.9.

I will update as I go.

A pillars in the works... Turned out as good as I could have expected!

How do you like the tw3? I have 2 ported in my F-150, but I am going to need something louder eventually

My 10tw3 suits me just fine. Its in a sealed enclosure that I made. Nice, tight bass but can also go low too. Money well spent IMHO.

don't waste your money on k2s. you can get separates that will kick *** for half the price.

And let me tell you, you can chase that voice to the edge of insanity!

Anyway, a lot of guys have used plexiglass to cover holes in door panels. I've generally been happy enough to use just deadener. Before you go for a big rebuild try fading all the sound out of the rear coaxials and see how that goes. If you do the front right they should be completely unnecessary.

Can't vouch for either of those components in particular, but I'd agree that if you're doing active you should be shopping Partsexpress or Madisound for components and not buying a set with passive crossovers off the shelf.

Been busy the last couple weekends. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Giving subs more power really wakes them up. The MRP-500 is pretty low power. You would really notice more authority in your bass.
