SS Filter and Crossover Question

I have an MTX Thunder 500D that I'm gonna use to power a Hertx HX 300D sub once I get it. The thing is this amp is kinda older and only has three adjustments: gain, eq, and freq. I'm guessing that the "eq" knob is for bass boost, and the "freq" knob is for a low pass filter.

Now someone that owns the sub I'm gonna get said to make sure I set my subsonic filter to make sure I don't damage the sub. The box I'll be building will be tuned to about 36hz. Now since this amp doesn't have a SS filter, will it be necessary to buy an external crossover with a SS filter?

you probably don't have a subsonic filter. no worries, you don't necessarily need a subsonic filter. I've never had a sub in a ported box blow because I didn't have a subsonic filter so u should be okay. Crossover point should be set around 80Hz and bass boost should be OFF or as low as it can go

I don't think my 9886 has anything other than a HPF, but I could be wrong. I tried looking for any other crossovers on it last night but didn't find any.

There's not a lot of music with freq's low enough for the lack of an SS filter to be an issue. It would need to be well into the 20's and you'd have to be blasting it.

Just keep it in mind if you're demo'ing some low freq tones or happen to have some music in with some super LF material.
