Where did you get the notion that "aero port wont work" from "kicker recommends slot port".

I would say let your builder worry about the port, He probably knows what he is doing.

how do you flare the pvc and is there any difference in using pvc compared to psp ports

For pvc, you usually flare the wood of the box itself. Something like this.

Although you're going to have to creative in the inner side of the port.
