Square port vs. Round port

Hey all,

This may be a noobie question, but after being out of the loop for 12+ years, I feel it's better to ask stupid questions than waste money in experimenting.

When building a ported box and the design uses a round port, I can build a slot/square port as long as the internal dimensions match, correct? Also, can this square port be divided into two (or more) ports if the collective internal volume matches?

I hope that makes sense, and thanks!

And yea, I actually did search and found all kinds of random info about ports, but I'm thinking my terminology wasn't correct because I didn't find anything regarding what I was asking.

They are usually referred to as slot port vs round port or aero port. But yeah they are the same thing. As long as total area is the same is doesnt matter the shape.

yes it does. a round port has the best perimeter vs. area ratio.

round can be a more efficient, but as long as area and tuning is right it doesnt matter

Could you define "small" a bit more? Anything less than 6 inches deep, by 2 inches high by 4 inches wide? Smaller than that?

In the last year I have had no less than 10 boxes that I and the DFW crew have built. I will never do another slot port EVER

PVC is easier to use.
