SQL...so many choices

Would a hdc3 18 work with 1500 watts(how deep is this sub, I might have to go with a 15 if I don't have enough room...it's an extended cab toyota truck so idk). I could add a battery in the back if needed. Surely that'd be sufficient at 1500w.

or should I go with a fi bl or q with 1000 watts and no new battery?

i didnt think hdc's and fi bl's were SQ subs lol, im not saying they sound bad but they're defently lean more towards spl, from what i've read/been told

HDC's can have very good SQ if the install is right and put some power to them and they get LOUD. Best of both worlds IMO...

How would two Mach 5 mj 18's sound? I could get two of them new for the price of 1 used fi q and they'd have just the right power with 1000w(and I wouldn't have to upgrade electrical).

I'm sure these will get loud but will they sound good doing it? They'll be in a sealed enclosure.

Two 18's can sound good as long as you have a great front stage to blend well with the low hitting 18's. You may not get as much of the higher range bass out of the 18's, not to be confused with mid-bass.

just pick something after reading countless reviews from people who dont know what they are talking about and if you dont like it, well......then you learn and pick something else and so on and so on.....till you know what your talking about from actual experience.

Well for how cheap the mach 5 mj's are I don't think I could possibly be dissappointed lol. Surely they'll get loud.

whats your definition of sound quality? whats your front stage? picking a driver is really going to be the last step. a driver depends on the enclosure plus car acoustics tremendously for its acoustical characteristics. theres so many variables, you cant just suggest a driver knowing nothing about your position on the subject.

Well I'm currently running a jl13w3 off of 300w so pretty much anything I do will be MUCH louder than what I've got now. Not sure how the sq of the w3 compares to the mj or any other sub reccommended but it isn't bad compared to the shit subs a lot of my friends have.

I'm running a pair of 3-way pioneer coaxials upfront off of a nice ppi art series a404 amp that is putting out way more power than they can handle(I'll be replacing them again soon, the last pair I had blew but were under warranty from the local audio shop lol).

As you can see what I've got now isn't great so w/e path I choose I'll probably be happy.

Alot depends on the box... but considering a HDC is a plain overhung driver coupled with the fact that they lack an octave of bottom end definatly makes them seem to be more of a SPL oriented woofer to me... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

On listening to a HDC and a couple varients I was not really impressed with the SQ.

OP.. check out the CCS SDX15's... they look pretty sick and have got some great reviews...

So I guess its come down to either 1 FI Q 18 with bp sealed or 2 mach 5 mj 18's sealed. Either option will be close in price. Will be using a 1000w amp. I'm guessing the mj's will be considerably louder but lack sq?
