SQL build: SSA Gcon or FI SSD

Hey guys,

My first post is a kind of a vs thread... sorry...

Looking to get some opinions on these 2 compared to each other such as if one is more sq or spl biased than the other if anyone on here has heard both subwoofers. I am looking to do a SQL build and would be doing one of either sub as a 12" sealed, most likely powered by a aq q1-1200.1d.

I have found tons of information on the fi ssd and have a decent idea of what it is capable of. However, not so much on the Gcon. Unfortunately I will probably not be able to hear either of these before I buy given my location. Any info or even suggestion would be a great help.

go with the SSAs, the gcon is a great subwoofer. the SSD is to but ive heard better things about the gcon

Both are great subs. Don't think you'll be disappointed with either. I've only heard them ported and can't say there was a big difference but SSA wins. Not sure if that remains the same when sealed. I ran a 12" Icon sealed a few years back and it was amazing.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like so far the gcon is the sub to go with. Ground pounder what have you heard about the gcon? I havent been able to find too much info on it other than it prefers a sealed box a little more than ported I believe I saw in one thread.

I think with your amp the ssd will be better with cooling and high qts option!

It's a win win in the big picture. The SSD and Gcon are both excellent subs that are priced really well. I do like the SSA Icon suggestion too as for the power you are planning, it would give you some room to work with.

I do love the Icon, however on this build it will be just outside my budget. Trying to stay below $300. Yes this amp is more power than the Gcon can handle. I am getting a good deal from a friend who never used it and just needed it gone. So i figured if it was too much power for this build I would just set it accordingly to the sub and keep for the next bigger build. Dont get me wrong, I would love to use it to it's full potential. But i dont think I will be able to afford that this time around.

That is definitely one of the things that got me interested in the Gcon was that I found a lot of reviews that seemed to put it on the SQ side but still able to be loud. Is the Icon similar? Worth the extra $120. Already double guessing my post from less than a minute ago

The Icon is a great sub for daily SQ. It has a warmer sound with a little bit thicker bottom end than the Gcon. The Icon is a jump up in motor force, cooling, suspension, coil height, and Xmax. The Gcon will be great, the Icon is just more of everything.

Figure that I always see a bunch of threads where i never know what the person finally went with, so if I am going to complain about it I shouldn't do it in my own threads right? So sorry for bumping it but, start the count down until it is built because I ordered an Icon 12. Thanks for the suggestions and help. I probably wouldn't have found this awesome woofer without you guys
