sq system...ported or sealed

so it sounds lik both are fine but a sealed enclosure is my way to go bekuz it needs less space... still reseaching but until i made this post i was pretty sure i was goin ported

lol

but i deffinanetly need tha space cause i still have skool for a long while

and wat does IB stand for?

IB stands for infinite baffle. Since infinite air space is not possible in a car, using the entire trunk is as close as you can get in an automotive environment.

All you need to do is separate the front wave from the rear. This is done mostly with trunk cars in the rear deck, or by removing the rear seats and placing a baffle across the opening.

IB tends to result in a very flat response curve with what people describe a quite natural response. I hope to get a trunk car for my next vehicle so I can do an IB install.

thats not possible for me either though

i roll deep

i need back seats

but how do u do it wit the rear deck?

It can be done while keeping the back seats as well. Angle the baffle so it leaves a space between the baffle and the rear seat with the rear deck making another side to the space. Remove the rear speakers to allow the bass to vent into the interior and seal as well as you can around the baffle to isolate the front and rear wave. This will allow you to use big drivers which are good for a SQ system becuase it requires less excursion for a given output level which keeps the driver more linear.

A lot depends on the space you have available and potential equipment. My subs cover from about 60 Hz down and are in a large ported enclosure. They have a nice tight response, but give a great sound as well. There are many different options and some may be dependent on the subs you pick. Some subs work better in sealed over ported enclosures. Some, vice versa. As far as SQ subs go, I would suggest Focal, JBL, Arc, and also JL Audio though they are a bit lower of my list.

yeah i wish i could run an ib setup, but in a truck its not possible
Do a blow through and then mount the subs on a sheet of MDF instead of in a box in the bed //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif ...Of course this would require some sort of water tight bed cover...and a lot of fabrication.

I've been toying with this same question for my IDQ10 v2. FWIW, WinISD shows the response curve for an "optimal" ported enclosure having flat repsonse for 10-15 Hz (can't remember - have to check when I get home) lower than the "optimal" sealed enclosure. I'm sure it varies depending on the sub however.
