Just recently got a new ride, an '08 Vibe so I got a hatchback design to work with. I'm not sure how many cubic feet I'm dealing with, but I'm thinking there's about 7 or so back there. Anyway, I'm definitely going with some Audioque HDC3 subs, I'm just wondering what setup I should go with? A couple of 10's? or a couple of 12's? Or just 1 15? Or maybe even 3 10's? I'm thinking 3 10's would slam in a hatchback, but I have heard before that subs in uneven numbers isn't a smart choice? Anyone got any advice?

What sub has a higher reference efficiency the 10'' or 12'' or the 15'' ? The driver with a higher efficiency rating at 1w/1m in theory it will produce more spl. It also doesn't matter if you have a even number of drivers or a odd number. If you add a driver of the exact model and box volume to the set up you have now you should gain 3db with the same output power going to the drivers. If you double the output power and add one driver you should gain 6db, if you just double the output power and keep the same amount of driver you should gain 3db.

bigger subs usually more bass for less money, smaller subs more money spent less space taken up for the same amount of bass.
If you have a 15'' driver that is only 84db 1w/1m and a 10'' that is 95db 1w/1m and both rated at about the same power handling the 10'' will produce more spl because it is a more efficient driver.

i thought it was the bigger the woofer the more spl thats do to cone area and more air being moved ?

The ten is 84.439 dB, the twelve is 88.172 dB and the fifteen is 91.532 dB according to the Audioque website with 1w/1m. But naturally I couldn't do 3 15's due to space restrictions or probably even 3 12's. 3 10's, 2 12's or 1 15 would be my limit or so due to me wanting to also throw another battery back there which will take up additional space. And so naturally the 3 10's would give me the largest SPL then correct?

On another note, would I be able to power 3 of the 10" subs with two amplifiers? Is it possible to wire them like that? I was thinking of getting two 2200D's.

for the guy that saids uneven subs dont perf right or what not thats not true at all.

almsot all subs from 1,2,3,4,5 the more you add the better you can get issues when wiring them for load to an amp but running 3 10's each to its own amp or 3 10's that wire to an amp that has same power output fomr that amp as 2 or 4 speakers will do awsome..

Electrical is currently stock but I was planning on upgrading the big three, putting in a high output alternator and possibly another battery in the back.
