SQ Subs - 1200 watts

Ok, so what are the good sq subs out there lately, I haven't been into car audio for a year or so now so I have no idea whats good. I have an orion hcca-d2400 so I have 1200 watts I can use. I'm looking to get 2 12's or maybe even 1 12 or 1 15 (~1200 watts) that have excellent (I want a big step up from the 15" SX) SQ and I can seal, does anyone have any suggestions that would work well? Keep in mind I have the 880prs so it'll get a good signal.

hmmm... what kind of vehicle do you drive? The reason i ask is some vehicles are harder to get sounding good due to cancelation, etc. I owned an sx 15 and i thought it sounded decent. Some subs that a praised for sq that you may want to look into are a diamond d9, mag, idmax i believe, etc.

SI Mag, IDMax if you want something highly recommended on this forum. Aura NR series, DLS Nobelium or Iridium if you want something exotic with incredible SQ.

Not sure if you have a budget, but the Focal 40 KX sub would fit what you want quite well. It's a 15" sub that uses 1.4 to 2.8 cubic feet for a sealed enclosure. You would probably be best suited by a box about 2.2 cubic feet. It takes up to 2000 W max but RMS is around 1000. The subs are built for SQ, but I know some people that have pressured mid 40's (in SQ cars) with 1 15. I'm not sure what they cost though, but they are amazing subs.

I'm driving a 1993 Mercury Sable. And thanks for all the suggestions so far guys.

For the SI Mag, would I want to go with a 12 or a 15 for SQ, or are they both great? And they're rated at 900 and 950 watts, is this underrated or just about right? And with the IDMax, what kind of power levels do people run these at?

I am sure you understand gains and such. I cannot tell which to run though. I like 12's for SQ and take up less space. SQCHEVY runs I beleive a 15 and does quit well with that, check his sig.

From what I understand the SI MAG and IDMAX will handle more than rated power put just because you got 1200 doesn't mean you have to crack the gains and see if you can use it all.

I have SI MAG 12 BNIB have not seen what it could do yet.

So basically with the Mag or the IDMAX you're just saying set it at rated then adjust by ear from there? Lol ya know, it's interesting how the good subs stand the test of time. Like I said I haven't been into caraudio for around a year (maybe more now) and you all recommend pretty much the same SQ subs.

No. The SI Mag and IDMax are both rated at 900 watts but one will take more, one will not.

The SI Mag is built for abuse and people regularly run them daily with 1700 watts, in fact it is recommended by the company (through 1 Sundown amp).

The IDMax on the other hand will rapidly fall apart with too much power (search). From what I have heard you have to be careful with anything approaching RMS, making sure not to drive it too hard. Best to be on the safe side and try 500-800 with a Max imo.
