SQ Box Ideas for 2 12" Treo SSi's

So, I am getting my 2 12" Treo SSi's this week, and I'd like to come up with some enclosure specs/ideas soon so I can get a box built and get them running.

I'm looking to get the most SQ as possible out of these....SPL is not a big deal. I have a '98 Jeep Cherokee. I have about 35w x 20h x 20d to work with for the box. The box could be about 24" on the bottom depth, due the the angle of the backseat.

Things I was looking for suggestions on:

Should I fire the subs towards the back or upwards?

Tuning suggestions?

Box size?

Here are the recommended specs from Treo per each 12" SSi "1.75 cu ft net, 16 sq in vent, 16.5 in long, F3=28 Hz"

That recommended vent size seems tiny, thats 9sq in per cube of air

The port tune comes out to about 35hz, I would tune closer to 28-33 for sq (longer port length)

Also, is there any significant difference between firing the subs upwards vs towards the back?

Being that sq is subject to personal opinion there is not right answer until you play around and find what exactly you want. As for sub position, that will change the sound and output. Depending on the vehicle it is sometimes a better option to do so. The port area does seem very small though and I think you be subject to port noise issues.

Depends on the sub, but generally lower tuning gives a more linear response. IMO tuning

If you fire subs to the rear make sure you keep minimum 6" between them and the rear door. Rear panel will try to rattle hard. In my Jeep (97 Grand Cherokee) I haven't been too impressed with subs or port firing to the rear. I've had good luck with subs up and port to the side and sub(s) to the side and port up. I am giong to try subs and port up this week. I have high hopes.

Keep in mind if you fire port towards any wall keep at least a port width between the mouth of the port and any walls. 9" per cube of box space is fine, you could go with fluted port to reduce turbulence (wouldn't hurt).
