SQ and SQL that rivals 10W7

OK, first thing I have to state is that I have this upgrade-itis, as most of you probably have. I want to design things that I can spend more money on to upgrade later. So this is what brought me to my first potential design:

10" Eclipse Aluminum 8102DVC - US Acoustics USX-800D running 500W RMS @ 2 ohm

I figured that I can get that and then if I want, add another one. This way I will have a very good SQ system but with the addition of another 10" it could also get loud when wanted. Because as a daily driver I will not have it cranked, and I wanted good SQ in my car.

But then I start thinking (and getting recomendations) that for SQ, a single sub would be better. The thing about that is that there would be NO UPGRADING, which is definately a shame. So I figure, if I am going to get a single sub, I should just spend as much as I would have on the set of 2 sub's and amps. This obviously leads me to think of 10W7, not only for dominating SQ but also it can get loud if wanted.

So what is the general consensus on the above idea? I know immediatly there will be JL haters, but comon, you gotta give W7 some credit. So, what else rivals a 10W7 in SQ and in SPL. I know there is ALOT out there that will crush them in SPL, but I DONT WANT THAT. I want something that has SQ capability of a W7, but will also sound good for every 1 out of 10 times I want it to POUND.

THANKS ALL

I think there are so many subs that can get louder than a W&...

W7's in my opinion, are for audiophiles, those that usually use dynaudio for every driver, and would probably make their own custom xovers, etc, etc.. I think maybe that's what JL had in mind, when developing this sub. I think it'd be hard to find a subwoofer for a car that has that much of SQ.

Now, in terms of SPL, there are too many that will beat it flat out...the name Brahma cannot be ignored, same as XXX (I THINK they were good SQ subs) would give you a good balance.

But hey, if you can afford a JL W7, then by all means, go ahead, it's awesome to just even look at one...I'm sure two subwoofers would give you very good SQ, if you can get it done right. I think I made the mistake of trying to say only one sub is good and that's when I first got a response from jlaine...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Brahma

XXX

IDMAX

CMPx2

I've got nothing wrong with JL, all except for the fact that everything is around twice as much as it should be. When the day comes that I can buy a 13W7 for $300, then i'll consider buying it, but since I don't see that anytime in the future, the above four subwoofers will most likely have the same SQ to any normal joe shmoe as the W7, and cost half the price.

maybe, buut, i would expect the XXX to be louder, with the same allround sq with better frequency response because of possible staging (?proper term?) problems that you could have with the 2 10's. maybe look into the brahma, it would have killer sq and spl. From what ive heard a xxx is 40/60 in sq/spl, and the brahma is like 60/60 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif jk, but i think that the brahma is a more sq oriented sub that happens to kick *** in spl competitions.

The w7 is one of the top of the line SQL subs...It is hard to find a sub that can match that kind of SQ while maintaining SPL of those levels..But the subs has had a lot of engineering put into it, so thats why..Now I really hate the SVC, cause its just STUPID and its hard to get power to it...But I would definately put a Adire Audio Brahma against a JLw7 on any day..My personal bet is that the Brahma would have more SPL, while the w7 had more SQ..Although both have astounding SQ and SPL...I'd still rather go with the Brahma //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

On the SPL side of things...I could sit here all day and name subs that are louder: Just for starters:

dd9512

Kicker l7

Shocker III

SHocker Super

ED a

ED SP

Image Dynamics

The list goes on and on and on!!

Also..when comparing subs...why not do it as though a professional would go about doing so..Such as if u were competing in NSPL, Db Drag, MEca...There are different classes with different size woofers, enclosures, cars..etc etc..You would never seen 4 w3s competing against 2 re xxx's..Just the amps, size of the enclosures arent going to fall into the same class..and for one thing its 4 woofers..Most likely isnt going to be in a class with 2 woofers..hes just going to automatically have the upper hand..Unless its like this SQ subs vs. SPL beasts..Then again ya never know these days:rolleyes:

anyone else second a motion to Eclipse Titanium?

How do you think a single 10" would compare to say the Aluminum series and also Brahma and W7 in terms of SQ and SPL?

Remember I am putting much more stress on SQ in this case, probabbly like SQ-75/SPL-25, so I really don't care if 1 sub is gonna hitt tremendously harder, more I just want a top-of-the-line SQ sub, with SQL ability.
