If its about the lyrics, then I mean, what do rap lyrics have over poetry? Hmmm, could it be the music... the beat? Could it be the thuggish attitude the music, and many of its fans, like to portray? The tough-guy theme music these days? It couldn't possibly be the gang-like disposition 99% of the rappers like to show off. I never read poetry really so I couldn't really say, but, my 2 favorite rappers, Slug of Atmosphere and Eyedea of Eyedea and Abilities ARE poets. And I'm not saying its bad to not like rap just because you don't like rap, I'm saying its bad to dislike it because all you've heard is the same crappy rap over and over again.
Once again, straight up stereotyping most rap as the same thing. There are alot of real poetic non-thuggish rappers out there, they're just not as famous.
You should listen to The Roots or Talib Kwali.....They actually are poets

Im not saying there aren't artistic lyrical rap songs out there, or good sounding (SQ) rap songs, but I AM saying the industry and genre as a whole leans a different direction. Every arguement you guys posts about a few relatively obscure rappers, and your hatred for mainstream rap, only reinforce my arguement.
lol i remember when i 1st startin likin the sound of bass in music i would listen to 2 live crew's song "whoomp there it is" then i got into rap music after that, ya dind't see rappers in the 90's makin songs about laffy taffy or how a girl drops low, come on think of better shiit to rap about these days, i don't mind the beats, but the hooks, well some of em really **** up the flow of the beat if ya know what i'm sayin plus bass has a nice low rich sound that is almost hard to kick the habit of listenin too
