//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif I sure hope hip hop doesn't die, I just hope this shitty top 40 hip hop dies. The only reason you think this is because you fall into the stereotype of the stereotype. You think all rap sucks because of the shitty top 40 type crap. Trust me, there are REAL musical artists making hip hop, like I said you just have to find them. I really don't think you're going to find any true artists making disco //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif.

Still no rap fans explaining which poets they also prefer.

Some of you guys need to come to grips with the fact there are people who simply dont like rap, and not due to any stereotype. Stereotyping anti-rapper as stereotypists is so stereotypical.

If its about the lyrics, then I mean, what do rap lyrics have over poetry? Hmmm, could it be the music... the beat? Could it be the thuggish attitude the music, and many of its fans, like to portray? The tough-guy theme music these days? It couldn't possibly be the gang-like disposition 99% of the rappers like to show off. Nooooo, clearly rap fans listen for the poetic lyrics and acoustical sound quality. lol

I never read poetry really so I couldn't really say, but, my 2 favorite rappers, Slug of Atmosphere and Eyedea of Eyedea and Abilities ARE poets. And I'm not saying its bad to not like rap just because you don't like rap, I'm saying its bad to dislike it because all you've heard is the same crappy rap over and over again.

Once again, straight up stereotyping most rap as the same thing. There are alot of real poetic non-thuggish rappers out there, they're just not as famous.

You should listen to The Roots or Talib Kwali.....They actually are poets

Maybe them not being as famous should tell you something. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif They aren't as famous because most rap fans aren't into rap for the reasons some of you wish us to believe. Im not saying there aren't artistic lyrical rap songs out there, or good sounding (SQ) rap songs, but I AM saying the industry and genre as a whole leans a different direction. Every arguement you guys posts about a few relatively obscure rappers, and your hatred for mainstream rap, only reinforce my arguement.

Its like saying Rock n Roll is about love ballads. Are there ballads in RnR? Of course. But no, I wouldn't try to categorize RnR that way just because it contains *some* ballads.

The only generalizing Ive really seen here is based on the motives of rap fans. This thread was started to try to clear up the idea that most rap fans aren't interested in SQ. So far, arguements about much less famous rap 'stars' who dont follow the norm, and your disdain for those rappers in the 'top 40' who DO follow the typical rap role/music style does not really support that rap as a whole gives 2 craps about sound quality over quantity.

I always laugh when I hear a rapper these days who are sampling a rap song from when I was in school through college in the 80's through mid 90's that was a sample of a "classic" song from the 60's or 70's. It always makes me wonder if any of them know where their samples came from.

Yeah, no doubt Full Metal Jacket and a 2 Live Crew Song. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
lol i remember when i 1st startin likin the sound of bass in music i would listen to 2 live crew's song "whoomp there it is" then i got into rap music after that, ya dind't see rappers in the 90's makin songs about laffy taffy or how a girl drops low, come on think of better shiit to rap about these days, i don't mind the beats, but the hooks, well some of em really **** up the flow of the beat if ya know what i'm sayin plus bass has a nice low rich sound that is almost hard to kick the habit of listenin too

i had the Kanye West cd his first one, every song was sampled with a 60's or 70's song and i'm like thinkin dude, it's like takin me back to old school times before i was even out of my mom's *****, i wanna hear street rap since he says he's from chicago plus that what i was expcectin with that cd of his but ya never know with rappers these days, they might have a catchy single then their cd is all gangsta or sampled out to much

And you know what cracks me up about it man...

All of those people who try to defend rap will say "yeah the thug stuff is stupid, but there are a lot of great underground rappers out there, you just have to find them" but then 99% of people turn around and listen to the stupid thug shit. It's almost like they have these mythical "talented rappers" just to legitimize themselves in case they need to fall back from their mainstream shit to try to argue a point. Everyone talks about these theoretical genius rappers but I have yet to hear anyone actually listen to them.

It's hilarious how people who listen to rap pretend to disdain mainstream artists yet that is probably what 99% of them listen to. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
