SQ amp thread: I know, here we go again!

Ok, bear with me....

I've seen tons of posts on amps, some recommend this one, some that one, everyone has an ear for something. I like what I use now, Elemental Amps, but want something...stunning? I've seen some stuff, read alot, but wonder what the consensus on this forum is for the following question....

Who REALLY makes good SQ amps, that are both superior sounding, as well as powerful? I don't want to spend over $1000 bucks an amp mind you, and will do "like new" used or get something from Ebay, but I want to know, best bang for the buck in the SQ arena, who makes some of the finest stuff around?

I'll be looking for a 4 channel (future upgrading) and a powerful A/B amp for subs (3 12's) or a nice monoblock class D.

Thanks for all the input and....bring it on!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

check out dls if you want some awesome sound. I'm using DLS for the first time and I'm in love with the amp. I used to think i didn't need more than a memphis, but this amp blows it out of water with less power. I thought i knew good sound, but i was wrong.

If you're familiar with my posts on this subject, you'll know that I'm not one who is very....concerned.....with the "sound quality" or "sonic characteristics" of amplifiers.

My general advice on the subject is to go with the amplifier that has the highest power output within your budget that also has the features you want, build quality, warranty and customer service levels you desire and is aesthetically pleasing to you.

That said and without getting into an argument over the subject....I think this is a very hard deal to pass up;

Grab two of those for your front stage and depending on how much power you need for the substage something like a BPX1100.1 (~$500 on egay) or a GTO1201.1II to match.

Or if you have the room and want to go nuts just grap 5 of those...two for the frontstage and one for each sub....and you'll only be at $750 shipped.

Is this also a good amp?http://ampguts.realmofexcursion.com/JBL_GTO75.4/or this one:http://ampguts.realmofexcursion.com/PPI_DCX1000.4/

I don't know about that...I've heard some pretty crappy amps in my day! And all of them had some power behind them.

However, the reason this is such an open topic? I didn't TRU amps! I had a set of Billet series amps a few years back...sold them within a week! I was dissapointed as I was hoping to have found the "manna" from heaven in amps.

see...to each his own, so it's hard sometimes!

Hmmm, you should be more concerned with your H/U and sub as far as SQ goes. A good amp will only amplify and take out all the unnecessary crap that cheap amp will expose in the background.

yea, if you are that unhappy with the sound, you should be focusing on your processing, crossovers, equalization, and INSTALLATION of your front stage and suboofers.

i highly doubt switching the amp (if its powerful enough to begin with) will make it sound audibly different assuming both amps are putting out the same amount of wattage.

subs are fine...just got the new X001 source unit...and amps add ALOT to how a system sounds! After 20 years, I know this //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

then you must have magical ears like the home theatre guys who spend $20k on their left channel mono amp.

i honestly have to say, if we did blind tests, assuming all power ratings were the same, all crossover frequencies were the same, you wouldnt be able to tell the difference between 5 different amps hooked to one set of speakers. straight up switching the RCA's to each amp. theres no way you can hear .xx% distortion that amps have.
