SPL #'s on JL w7's

Im not going to read through all this BS..... but if this is a repost...sorry

I think you will lose spl by switching from type R;s to W7s....... just an educated guess

BUT

Pete from Team Toxic Bass I do believe was doin 150's with two 13.5 W7s

I don't believe that for a second. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/bsflag.gif.21f42eccd34b7d1eb1608fb1b59b69c3.gif
It is possible on the old AC microphone. One of my friends hit in the 160s with two 18" Kickers off of four power 1000 BDs in the dB drags when they used the AC mic. There is no way that same setup with hit in the 160s with a Termlab!

i think this is what he is talking abot...I THINK

there was a guy at the cardenal audio show in phx,az that had 6 w7 13.5s that was playing music for 30 second average at 154s. and burped at 157. a lot of woofers but still impressive. played verylow.sounded good to.just for your //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I live down the street from a kid with a truck that's got a blowthrough with 4 12w7's running on 2 powerbass XA3000d's, and he managed to pull a 148.5 at 25hz. But that's all getting ripped out and put in a tahoe. We'll see what kind of numbers the hoe pulls when the season starts. I believe the box for the hoe is 6~7 cubes with 110 sq inches of port tuned to 25 hz.

And that score was sealed on the dash with a TL. So it is authentic. Haha.

TommyK did 150 with 1 10" Type S...so no...the W7's prob won't be louder
ummm... sub out the type S for a W7 10" and ya... I bet they would be for the following reasons:

1. more linear excursion

2. better power handling

3. less power compression

4. less inductance

4.5 problem= stupid impedance (but same power in the same "FART" box and I got my $$ on the W7

5. the name JL is worth like 5dbzzzz:laugh:

I guess you can say its all based on install.....oh wait, thats already been said here a million times berore........
Yes it has & basically that is what it would come down to. Is the install. I am just gonna throw a box together for the 2 jl w7's that I am getting & hopefully will b able to see if there is a difference between the 2 12" w7's or 2 of the 12" type r's. Both will be ran on my SAZ3000d.

i recently built a box for my bro in law for his 12w7s (2)... he didn't have a big 3 done to his car and runs the w7s off of a a2300hct or what ever that audiobahn is... box is tunned to 31 hz and he does a 144.6.. to maybe not to alot of you but to me thats pretty loud for what he has... we're gunna have to meter again he just put a kinetik 2400 under the hood and we gotta thicken up some wires for him... by the way its in a 99 grand am gt.... and i did a 144.8 sealed with 2 12" 2xls but i'm tunned @ 46... so id say ya you can get loud with w7s and probably louder then type-rs if you feed them theyre power.. i'd go for them i really like the sound out of them.. and i'm sure it could sound alot better with a different amp

Outlaw... as in.... mic in the port. Still not sure what people get out of that type of competition, let alone comparing that score to any form of in-cabin mic score.
Back to the original topic, sort of... I believe the w7 is a great performer still, but its price tag is simply not realistic when compared to competing drivers. JL use to argue the sub was completely proprietary, every piece was designed and made by them, which costs extra money (design, tooling, etc). Im confident in saying JL payed for their tooling and start-up costs on this driver long ago. So why, if JL is not riding on their laurels and profiting simply off their market prowess and name recognition, have they never reduced the price of the W7 line? Its not necessarily bad business, but its hard to argue JL doesn't artificially inflate prices on at least some of their items.
I believe I may have some insight. JL did spend alot to develop this technology that others have now benifited from as well. Your right, alot of those costs have been paid. But they are still paying engineers and others to have a steady development of new products coming out. Next they want to keep there profits up in a company that has much higher overhead and SG&A costs then an internet company. Also I would bet that almost any of the internet selling manufactures would give anything to have the distribution network that JL has. At the same time JL's distributors are not going to switch easily either because they make better profits as well with JL and get alot of sales just by the name. Some of the internet based manufactures look like they use alot of the same components. JL's seem to be mostly unique. That increases costs as well.

I will say this though the W7 and W6 are impressive to look at and listen too. Their construction is impressive. The W6 in the right enclosure sounds amazing.

where did he get metered?

where did he get metered?
He got metered at the shop that he got the work done. Tint Fx in Joplin, MO. They had to call a guy to borrow a TL, because the shop didn't have one themselves. I believe he did a 147 at idle and the 148.5 at 2000 rpm. Both at 25 hz sealed up on the dash. I'll post pictures of the setup if y'all want them.

I'm going to try and run the circuit with midwestspl this summer hopefully before I go to college. I'm interested in what I can do with my new DP. Haha. And once this kid is done with swapping systems into this tahoe, he'll be joining the circuit too.
