Speaker Wire Short?

I have had my system installed for 2 months now, but haven't had a problem until now. Whenever the front passenger door is opened all the way, there is a loud buzzing noise coming from all the amped speakers. Turning down the headunit volume has no effect in getting rid of the noise. Once I start to close the door, the noise goes away. Anyone know whats causing it?

sounds like a short is the problem. Take apart the door and check out the condition of the wiring.

If it is a Short, will the speaker wire be exposed and touching metal? And will wrapping electrical tape around the exposed area solve the problem?

yes, and generally yes. The wiring should be in it's own protective sleeve or wire loom.

I took the door panel off, and theres only one thing which could be the problem. A section of the wire got stuck in behind the door check( something like the hinge, except this keeps the door from shutting on its own). It makes sense that this would be the problem because when you open the door fully, the door check completely opens up, so if there was anything in behind it, then it would get squat against it. The wire was punctured, but not very much, maybe the size of a needle. It is possible that little puncture in the wire would cause the short? And will wrapping it with electrical tape fix the puncture?

If a piece was exposed then that's all it will take.

re-route the wire to an area without moving parts. AKA the boot that passes between body and door.

I had the wire routed through the boot, but it got stuck behind the door check in the inside of the door. Anyway, I wrapped the exposed part up in electrical tape and moved the wire away from the door check, and its woking fine. Hopefully, it wont happen again.
