Speaker--volume/space needed-for enclosure

When you are making kickpanels, or seperate boxes to add coaxial or component speakers, is there a volume for the enclosure that needs to be used? im planning on building a couple small enclosures to add 2 sets of 6.5 coaxials in the rear of my vehicle, and am just wondering if there is a volume to use for the enclosures.

i ask this because mainly all 6x9 speaker boxes are around the same size, and i have never read anything on kickpanels designs about volume requirements.

any input is appreciated.
