Speaker set up help

I have a 06 Sierra extended. I have a ddx719 head unit with stock speakers, (six speaker set-up). I am not looking for a loud system, just want clear sound. The front speakers are 6.5 component and the back are 4x6. I would like recommendations for speakers for the doors.

If i can't get enough bass out of these then i may add a small amp and a small sub set-up to give it a low presence. Any ideas on those.

Edit: As far as cost goes; I would not like to go much over 300$ for the door speakers and not over that much again for the sub and amp.

CDT Audio HD-61, JBL MS-62C. I'm an authorized dealer for CDT and I get JBL from an authorized distributor. Either of these sets can deliver fantastic sound for the money. I would recommend a good quality amplifier for either set, although they will work on your head unit.

If you do not want to add an amp, you could get coaxials rated at 93 db spl, maybe hook up a set of tweeters in parallel of the same brand and bring the impedance from 4 to just over 2 to get the most power out of the HU.

If you get components add an amp. The only component speaker you could just add to a factory HU that will give you good bass and clear sound would be the Hertz Dieci, lower priced Hertz components. Any other more expensive component set with 93 db spl or below will need more power, usually 70 watts plus per channel. I can't speak for any other brand driven with low power. You may want to consider a sub box for the rear fill. If you get a good 4 channel amp, you could drive your components with with it, bridge the rear channels and drive a 4 ohm sub box, while you drive your rears with the Head Unit or keep the factory speakers if you get a sub. It is choice between rear speakers and more fill or add a sub. If you want a lot of quality bass from the doors, You will need to sound deaden the doors and that can cost time and extra money.

Most good small amps will give you, 50 x 4, but will give you 70 x4 at 2 ohms. To get the most from the amp you may want to select 2 ohm speakers or components.

Thanks for the replies. So I am going to have to go with an amp to get decent sound in this truck. So am I better off setting up an amp to run the front and sub and letting the HU run the back door speakers or letting the head unit run the door speakers and getting an amp to run the sub? the cdt hd 61a models recommended earlier are great i also sell cdt prolly more than anyone on this site .also a american bass vfl 350.4 amp and a decent 4 ohm woofer like dayton

I would like a set-up that does not require the volume to be turned up to get quality sound out of the speakers.

With an amplifier on the speakers you can set the gain with the volume only as high as you want it, although this causes three problems:

1. Low signal level going into the amplifier, meaning there may a hiss heard through the speakers as a result of cranking up the gain to compensate.

2. Lack of dynamics. A lot of music doesn't have much dynamics from the production process, but for music that does have quiet and loud passages it will all sound about the same level.

3. Depending on the sensitivity of the speakers you buy and the amount of power you run, you may not like how quickly the volume gets really loud if you only want to turn the knob 1/4 up, for example. There's nothing wrong with turning the volume up almost all the way if the radio doesn't do some junk like reduce the bass. If you do have a radio that changes the sound in relation to the volume then there may be a need to change the head unit or add a processor before the amplifier.

Components is the way to go for better sound and they need power, you can spend $300 on a nice set of components like the cdt recommended, but you will have to spend more on an amp to drive them, in many cases quality sound speakers need more power, it is difficult to get loud and clean sound with less power, you may want to look in to brands like Focal, hertz DSK lower end for the price since they are efficient and will not need a powerful expensive amp to sound clean and loud with less volume. There may be other efficient speakers but not as clean sounding with low power. Sub: get a JBL or infinity 10 or 8 inch, with 90+ spl 200-300 w rms or any good brand with over 91 db spl, Amp: 4 ch bridge able or 5 ch amp, in either case you will be over $600 by the time you add your wiring instal kit RCA cables, speaker wires, personally since I am not a bass head, I don't believe in sub amps unless it is used in conjunction with another 4 ch amp, SE has a JBL 5 ch amp on sale now for $300 but it is out of stock. If you change the 4 x 6 speakers you will be at $650 plus if you go with a set from Jbl, infinity or Polk, nothing jaw dropping but decent real fill if wanted, and you can tweak your HU crossovers and Eq to keep them from polluting your front stage.
