speaker probem

im having some trouble with my speakers. randomly at random starting times the speakers will go static and sound like shit. once it starts to happen if i turn the subs down then it goes away. its not the subs i know ive checked them out. when the subs are off and the speakers play at like 48/62 it starts again. also if the subs are at like 2nd notch on gain and theres little bass from them and the volume can be at like 35 it will happen. it appears to happen mostly when subs are playing. i went behind my head unit and found a couple exposed wires and a crimp came undone and i fixed those problems but it still does it. if my speakers were blown would they only sound it with subs up? anyone have any suggestions?
