Speaker mounting rings, better solution?

Is there any material other than MDF to make a speaker mounting ring out of? I glassed an enclosure in my Prelude and long story short I'll have to scrap the whole thing the next time I have to mess with the subs, due to moisture destroying the MDF rings. Any input?

you can coat the mdf with resin. Pretty sure you can make them out of anything you desire, with money.

I prefer using plywood as it keeps the ring a lot stronger. You can coat the rings in just about anything that's waterproof to keep them from deteriorating. Exterior paint, deadener, resin, bedliner, etc.

Would fiberglass resin bond to steel or aluminum? I have an entire machine shop at my disposal.
