I know there are a thousand threads about this vs. that so Ill try not to do that.

Anyway,Im looking for some speakers for my 07 Dodge Ram.It had 6x9 's and now I want some comps.Ive been listening to a ton of them and there are some I like and some I dont.I really liked the JL stuff,MB Quarts, and Alpines.I didn't like Kicker,Eclipse or the Polks. I came across what seems like a good deal on a set of Boston Pro 50's.He wants 220.00 for them, they are brand new. Good deal???I cant audition them no one sells them locally.

One question I have is this,Ive been looking at 6.5 comp sets, will a 5.25 set sound a lot different than the 6.5's?? Im looking at 2 amps right now. One is a 150x2 Phoenix Gold the other is a 200x2 PPI.Im looking for really clean sound with at least some decent midbass. Would these speakers work for what I want to use?? I listen to mainly 80's type metal with maybe some new rock and some country(For the wife //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif)

5.25" speakers can give you a flat response if you have great speakers, speaker placement, and a great install, including sealed and rigid enclosures, and a subwoofer is a must... if anything is off, they will sound a little thin and tinny. However, everything else being equal, physics dictate that the smaller size speaker will have better off-axis dispersion and imaging in comparison to 6.5".

With that said, many of the younger guys want midbass drivers in the doors strong enough to make their pant legs flap, so 6.5" is the most popular size by far.

Based on the speakers you said you liked, I would recommend Cerwin Vega V-Max 65, $175.00 shipped, or V-Max-5 at onlinecarstereo.com - they are on par with top of the line or second tier Quart and JL but at about half the price.

Yep, great choice right there. I got a chance to finally audition these not long ago. Great bang for the buck. The tweeter was a little (I do mean very little) harsh for my tastes, but not so harsh that I couldn't live with them after a little eq'ing. $175 shipped is hard to beat for these convertible comps.

Throw a clean 2x100-125w rms at them and they'll treat you nice.

Thanks for the replies guys!!

Where do I find the 6.5's? The place you mentioned only has the 5.25.I mean Im not against them, its just that if I have a choice Id rather have the 6.5's.
