Speaker/Head unit matching

If my head unit is a 200w max X 4 channel (50w per channel), and I use 6 x 9 speakers that can handle a max of 225w, will this effect the way the speaker sounds, or in other words, does the head unit have enough power to drive those speakers, or should I be using a speaker with a lower max power rating?

Just curious because my speakers are not sounding very good, and I'm trying to figure out why.

do not go by max ratings, go by rms ratings, and your hu will not produce 50 watts rms
