Anybody here ever tried those plastic speaker cups that you mount your door speakers in, to create a sealed environment? I think they're also marketed to help 'protect' the speakers from moisture, etc. but that's not really why i'm interested.

My front speakers are around 2.5" deeper than the factory speakers, and custom door pods had to be made for them to be mounted, but the door pods aren't even close to being airtight, i can actually look down and see the basket of my driver's side speaker, and i don't think, but i know, it has a lot to do with my lack of midbass.

I'm really trying to avoid having to tear the pods off and rebuild them all over again, i paid $$$ to have the system put in, and i'm really interested in these door speaker pods i've heard about, so i want to know if anyone has any experience with them, and if anyone knows if 6.75" models exist, or where i can pick them up.

I need 6.75" for the fronts, and 6.5" for the rear, if anyone knows where i can get them, or if anyone knows other solutions for creating a sealed install for my speakers without completely redoing the install, please let me know!!

Thanks in advance,

Nate.

I did some searching, and found out they're speaker baffles.

A lot of people don't like them, because they 'degrade performance' however, i know direct cancellation isn't helping my performance right now, not to mention the speakers 'letting loose' anywhere below 100hz or so.

Would using the baffles help me to stop cancellation, at least? What if i cut the bottoms out, and just used the baffles to stop the sound from escaping around the back of the basket, and get all of the vibration from the back of the speaker INTO the door, rather than right back out into the cabin, cancelling my sound?

And what parameters of the speaker do i look at to determine whether it may perform better altogether in a seale environment? I know most speakers like lots of airspace, but some actually work better in sealed kickpanels or boxes.. So i would imagine the same would go for a sealed baffle?

They're alpine type-r 6.5's in the back, and kenwood xxv-04s in the front.

Thanks again.

Sounds good, that would atleast keep the sound from escaping before it even gets to the door, still may be interested in trying them sealed first, just to see how they perform, but cutting the bottoms out, and dynamatting the inside of the door seems like a gameplan.

There's also hard plastic baffles available, and searching around on the net, i read someone recommending to poke holes in the back of them with a pin, one at a time, until you get slight bottoming out, and then increasing your high-pass filter a few frequencies to create a tuned enclosure of sorts, which actually sounds like it may actually be reasonable enough an idea to really work. Anyone ever hear of this?

Yes. Only thing is the leads will be encased in resin. Keep in mind that this is an assumption.

I agree with every one above. OFC is much better. Copper is a much better conductor than aluminum.

Speaker ratings are generally a thermal/mechanical limitation of the drivers. Music is dynamic, not continuous. During quiet periods a song, you...
