Has anyone else run into this problem?
The car that this happened in is my 2006 Ford Escape Limited.
I have focal polyglass 165 V1 componets in my doors. Well my door handle fell off the other day so I had the door panel off to fix it and guess what, my Focal speaker is slightly damaged!
Since the focal is a 6.5in speaker, I had to make a MDF adapter for them to fit in the stock locations. I made it out of 3/4 mdf as everyone told me to. Apparantly, the spacer was too thick and touched the bottom right corner of the speakers against the door panel, making that portion unable to move. The rest of the cone moved, and the speaker got very slightly creased as a result.
I remade the adapters with 1/2 in wood but am still worried. Has anyone else had this problem? I want to upgrade to the Focal 165 k2p upgraded versions, but i'm not going to put $1000 speakers in my doors if this is going to happen again.
The problem is that there is no way to test it without damaging the speakers because the grills are so opaque! How do I know whether it's hitting or not? I would consider cutting out a spot to use aftermarket grills but I think it would look REALLY bad.
Thanks,
-Jon
