Speaker Baffles!

Okay I just got a new set of Pioneer Premier TS-D720C from Crutchfield, $110 shipped, pretty **** cheap of you ask me, even if they are discontinued, they are still for sale too. You can thank me for hooking you up with this link lol

I have MDF baffles on my door where my Mpyre mid used to be, but dont wanna fiber glass for the new mid, so have any of you guys used the foam baffles that are meant to protect speakers and help sound output. Looking at these, and for the Pioneer mids i have, would they work?

They work, but a little modification makes the speakers like them a lot better. I cut the bottoms out of them , leave the top to protect from water dripping down . Opening up the bottom of them allows the speaker to utilize the door space. ^exactly - you don't want to leave them closed - that will choke airspace needed by the speaker. the foam baffles do two things -

1. they help seal the speaker/baffle to the door

2. they help protect from moisture.

i use the XTC foam baffles from Parts Express, and usually cut the back and bottom since they are usually too deep. you really just want a half circle on the top. water runs down the interior door skin.

other than those benefits - they won't improve sound. a speaker tweaker - or deflex pad mounted directly behind the speaker on the metal door can help break up the back wave, improving sound. Parts Express sells them also.
