Before viewing this thread, you can see the box build log for Dave's Grand Am right here : http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=409375

Anyways, it's 4.1 cubic feet with 50sq. in of port area tuned to 33Hz.

Here's the box all ready to be installed

D2 subs wired in series for 4 ohms then the subs ran in parallel for final bridged load on the amp of 2 ohms. We ran out of speaker wire so I doubled up on the 16 gauge cheapy stuff. Just think of it as like running multiple runs of 1/0 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I'm guessing by now you're wondering what this "Soundstream Proto-woofer looks like huh?

DavesCarInstall002.jpg

Dave had a couple of extra Soundstream SPL-X dustcaps laying around and some extra 12" gaskets that had the Soundstream logo on it... looks pretty legit IMO //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

More pics + a video coming soon.

Holy ****! We actually managed to get the box in lol

The Grand Am trunk is nothing short of a complete joke. It's so shallow and skinny. We had to rip out the back seat bottom AND back and the stand the box in the back seat facing up, lay it down, and then slide it back into the trunk through the hole.

Mmmm... wires

More wires... and some little wood blocks to support the amps.

All finished, wires tucked away and amps mounted on the box. (Amps will find another location soon once he gets his new amp. This setup turned out to be a lot louder than expected and the amps literally jump and hop around ontop of those wooden blocks. We stuffed some extra carpeting between the box and the amp which helped, but they need to find a new home

We took a quick little video of them doing a 80-15Hz sweep and it's uploading at the moment, so I'll have it up here shortly.

All in all, I'm very impressed with the setup. These things are rated at 1200 RMS and I know those DD cloned motors will take even more. Given the fact that we're only giving them 1/3rd of what they can take (500rms), they pound really hard.

Here's a quick little video doing a 80-15Hz sweep off of 500W rms each. They crave sooo much more power //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

looks nice good job cool subs
Yep, from the outside, they look pretty much identical to the SS SPL-X series subs. No one knows the size of the basket and motor hiding behind that double baffle //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

You should turn the box around and face them towards the front. Maybe seal off the cabin from the trunk.
I would just as soon hang myself from my garage door than I would try to get that box back out, turn it around, and put it back in. Besides... the back seat is only out to get the box in. Wouldn't sound very good firing into the back seat with the back seat installed again. It gets plenty loud anyways.

Oh and Dave, I just walked outside... that Fazoli's that I got for lunch, I kinda left it on ground by garage //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif There's gotta be like a million ants crawling on my pasta. Gonna go get the bug spray and punk those ****ers //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Nope, nothing my electrical can support as of now. And the 2000 watt mono tarantula is way to big. All my **** is Old School till I get the 3500d

a big LOL @ the electrical situation. I put my DMM on the power and ground leads to the amp in the back and it was touching LOW 10V on full tilt.

Big 3 + extra battery is needed as of now... nevermind even a bigger amp lol
